“I suppose you’ve heard the news, Basil?” Lord Henry said that evening as Basil Hallward was shown into a small private dining room at the Bristol, where dinner had been prepared for three people.
“No, Harry,” Basil replied, handing his hat and coat to the waiter.
“What news?
“Nothing political, I hope.
“Politics doesn’t interest me.
“There’s hardly anyone in the House of Commons worth painting, though quite a few of them could certainly use a little improvement.”
“Dorian Gray is engaged to be married,” Lord Henry said, watching Basil carefully as he spoke.
