Dorian left the room and began climbing the stairs, with Basil Hallward following closely behind him.
They walked quietly, the way people naturally do at night.
The lamp in Dorian’s hand threw strange shadows across the walls and staircase.
Outside, the wind was growing stronger, making some of the windows rattle.
When they reached the top landing, Dorian placed the lamp on the floor.
He took a key from his pocket and unlocked the door.
“You really insist on knowing, Basil?” he asked quietly.
